Magee's Auxiliary Groups
Magee is recognized throughout the world for medical excellence and innovation, outstanding patient care, research, and education. This notoriety is achieved in part through the hard work and dedication of our three hospital auxiliaries: The Twenty-Five Club, Volunteer Service Board and Women's Auxiliary
The Twenty-Five Club
Since 1939, the Twenty-Five Club has been supporting infant research at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC. The membership is limited to 25 active members, but includes 12 associate members, and seven lifetime members. Their fundraising efforts support The Twenty-Five Club Chair in Neonatology Research. Fundraising activities include the annual patron letter, Fall Luncheon, The Christmas Ball, and The Cradle Will Rock.
The Twenty-Five Club’s donations supported the recent renovations for Magee’s state-of-the-art neonatology intensive care unit, which provides the technology and expertise needed to ensure a successful recovery, while also offering a more intimate environment for babies and their families.
In June 2008, The Twenty-Five Club hosted the Please Take a Seat gala. This one-of-a-kind chair auction raised more than $110,000 for neonatology research at Magee. All 75 chairs, decorated by prominent Pittsburgh artists and signed by Pittsburgh sports personalities, were bid on.
Volunteer Service Board
Founded in 1940, the Volunteer Service Board promotes active interest in volunteer service work among friends of Magee so their cooperation and interest advances the ideals and standards upon which the hospital was founded. With 27 active members, VSB members dedicate their time to the following:
- Garden View Gift Shop, which includes the Café
- Baby Shop
- Women's Boutique
- Gift Cart, ordering merchandise, creating window displays, delivering flower and balloon arrangements
- Interacting with patients, families, and staff
- Providing exceptional customer service
- Assisting Magee staff at the Information Desk
- Serving as a liaison for families in the Surgical Services Department
The generosity of the VSB has enhanced patient care at Magee. Currently, the VSB supports a licensed oncology patient navigator who assists patients and their families coping with cancer decisions; post-surgery camisoles that provide comfort and ease for breast surgery patients, and; neonatal intensive care unit breast pumps and stands, which provide each mom the opportunity to express milk while visiting their newborns. They also support the purchasing of car seats for infants and bassinets, and more.

Women's Auxiliary
Interested in meeting the changing needs within Magee, the Women's Auxiliary participates in projects that raise funds for programs that advance patient care and comfort recommended by hospital administration.
The Auxiliary sponsors the Baby Picture Program and the Kodak Picture Maker, which is a kiosk where families can upload and print pictures from their cameras.
In its 65th season, The Clothes Line, a project of the Auxiliary, offers gently worn women's clothing, jewelry, household items, books, and more at their resale shop located at 4804 Liberty Avenue in Bloomfield.
The 47 members continue to fund programs and projects that are most compatible with the Auxiliary's ideals and goals. The group has contributed to major hospital initiatives such as the expansion of Magee-Womens Research Institute, the renovation of the neonatal intensive care unit, and have funded equipment upgrades in the Scott L. Williams, MD Breast Care Center.
Recognizing the Auxiliary's ongoing commitment to the hospital, its demonstrated remarkable energy, dedication, and success in fundraising for Magee, the group received the Elisabeth B. McCullough Award in 2006 in recognition of the longstanding Clothes Line project.
